How do diverse relationships inspire the music? A talk with Kenny Keys Robinson.
ECLECTIC is the name of Kenny Keys Robinson’s debut CD. Keys is the newest Wolf Entertainment recording artist. Eclectic is also the best word to describe Kenny’s musical taste and background. Born and raised in Queens, New York, Keys was the youngest of 10, from a very musical family. Key’s older brother, David, led a recording Gospel group back in the 60’s and 70’s. Keys began taking formal piano lessons at age 11 and continued his studies at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Queens College, and the Juilliard School.
Keys left college in his senior year to tour with Rap Mogul Russell Simmons’s now famed ORANGE KRUSH BAND. It was the backup band for the Godfather of Hip Hop himself KURTIS BLOW. After a 2-year stint on the road Keys returned to his studies with an emphasis on recording and production technologies and the emerging music high tech explosion. Keys studied music technology and audio engineering with Howie Stern (chief engineer for Madison Square Garden, NYC). Keys began a long stint of record production projects in a wide variety of musical genres including, gospel, R7B, Hip Hop, and smooth Jazz. He worked with a number of leading recording artists including MONA LISA, DAWN LEWIS, (of Different Strokes TV show), KURTIS BLOW and EARL BYNUM. Keys also served as vocal coach for R&B/Hip Hop super-producer TEDDY RILEY. Keys worked with Teddy’s smash hit R&B group BLACKSTREET during the time of their #1 single “NO DIGGITTY”.
You’ll hear some of these musical influences displayed in Keys first single release for WE, entitled “DON’T WASTE MORE TIME” a sizzling up-tempo New Jack/Smooth Jazz song featuring a NYC songstress named SYLVIA SIMMONS.
